Dental crowns are recommended when a tooth has endodontic procedures, has deep cavities, or is broken. Crowns, also known as dental caps, consist on protecting the damaged tooth recovering its aesthetics and functionality.
A dental crown is a fixed prosthesis that covers a damaged or destroyed tooth. It acts as a natural tooth recovering aesthetics and chewing functions.
Crowns may be single or with 3 or 4 units, these last are also called bridges.
Materials:
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns: the interior part is made of metal and recovered (exterior part) in porcelain. It is common to use them on back teeth to avoid the metal to be seen through the gums.
Zirconia crowns: very resistant, light weighted, and aesthetic as they are translucent and reflect light in the same way as natural teeth.
Porcelain crowns: restore aesthetics as natural as possible. It’s the one that provides the most natural color combination.
Resin crowns: used as a provisional remedy as they easily wear down or break
